19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial championship for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- number one, has endured a challenging season, achieving just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's maiden title following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from March of the previous year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my both daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.

The player's defensive play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the last five points to go ahead.

The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden professional victory, took control to create a final set.

He rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner secured the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent unable to control a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
